ALOHA HAPPINESS By THAT OMEGA KID
If ever there was a reason to hate work, this was it. More to the point, these were the reasons. Firstly there was Beatrice’s boss who was in technical terms, an asshole. Then there were her colleagues to consider, or her ‘peers’ as she was told was the correct term for them by her asshole of a boss. Her ‘peers’ were, well, what’s the right terminology to describe a bunch of overpaid morons? Oh, a ‘bunch of overpaid morons’ perhaps? Yes that fits just perfectly. Then there was the job. Typing up data reports for the weekly analysis, which literally was as dull as it sounds. Maybe if they hired a monkey and paid it in bananas they might get a better suited job fit. Unfortunately Beatrice was no longer allowed bananas after the last office party.
One of the outstanding points at her workplace was the cafeteria. There were outstanding stains on most of the tables and chairs as well as a few exceptional blood stains on the cooks who worked there. Beatrice liked to fool herself into believing that the red marks were tomato sauce or perhaps a tasty Ragu but she knew deep down in her heart of hearts that it was more likely to be Alsatian blood. The office facilities weren’t that much better. In the ladies toilet once someone had left a pile of faeces in the middle of the washroom floor. Most of the computers no longer worked to their potential. It was quite a frequent occurrence for Beatrice to be found attacking the computer with stationary like a stapler or ruler which was one of the few highlights she got to enjoy. All in all it was a pretty terrible place to work and she wished she could just leave it all behind and escape to some exotic, remote island somewhere and spend the rest of her days sipping Margheritas getting fanned down by some hunky island native. This had always been a fantasy of hers but never before until today had she thought it a tangible conclusion to her torrid existence. But today was the dawn of a new beginning. Today was the day that she handed her notice in and utilised her savings by turning them into a one-way plane ticket to Hawaii.
